Is There A “Best Day Of The Week” To Buy A Car?
When you’re ready to shop for a car, when should you visit the car lots? Are some days better than others? Is the first of the month better than the last? Traditional car dealerships are driven by quotas, release dates and manufacturer’s deals. Here are a few tips to consider when to go looking for the right car to buy.
Skip the Weekends and Shop Early in the Week
Most people flock to the car lots on weekends. The sales team is fully staffed and busy. You may find it hard to get anyone’s attention. Shop early in the week and avoid those crowds. You’ll get more attention from the sales people who will have time to answer all of your questions and show you several models.
Make Late-Afternoon Offers
If you have done your research and know the car you want to buy, try going to the dealership late in the day. Salesmen are getting ready to go home so they may be more likely to negotiate near your offer just to get the sale and get on their way home.
End of Month or Quarter Deals
Salesmen normally have bonus opportunities based on their monthly or quarterly sales totals. Time your shopping around the end of the month or quarter to see if you can find the sales people who need that extra sale. Like the end-of-the-day offer, they will want to make a quick sale to make sure the numbers end up on their bonus sheet.
Time Your Shopping as the Model Year Changes
Car manufacturers are driven by the changes in their line up each year. New models are rolled out in late summer and fall. Dealerships need to make space in their lot for the new models, so they will discount last year’s models to get them moving. They are also paying to have those cars sit on their lot so they are eager to have cars that have been in the lot for a few months to move on.
End of Year Sales
Year-end quotas, manufacturer’s fees and taxes are on the minds of the dealerships at year end. Year-end holiday sales are a good opportunity to buy a car. The inventory may be a little picked over by then, so you may not find the exact color you wanted, but you’ll save some money.
